I bought this DW-5600 online about ten years ago.If I remember right, it was 3,980 yen.A so-called “reverse import” model.
These days, G-SHOCK has so many kinds. But to me, this one is the most basic.It feels like the origin of G-SHOCK.
It looks almost the same as the one Keanu Reeves wore in the movie Speed.
Tough. Simple. And a little nostalgic.
G-SHOCK changes its models all the time. After a few years, you often can’t get the parts anymore. When the band breaks, that’s the end. Some models are almost like throwaway items.
But this DW-5600 is different.The band and bezel are still sold. Probably will be for a long time.
As long as the inside doesn’t break, you can keep using it.
I’ve changed the band and bezel twice. Each time, it looks like a brand-new watch again.
It’s not solar-powered. It doesn’t catch radio signals. But that’s exactly why I like it.It’s honest. Clean. No extras.
I wear it when I go to the beach, or work on my car.I don’t worry about it.
Even changing the battery is easy,if you have a small screwdriver and some quiet time.
To be honest, I don’t use the stopwatch. Or the alarm. Maybe I don’t even know how to use them.
But that’s fine. I like the simplicity.For someone like me, who loves basic things, this watch still feels… cool.
